Sarah Dryden-Peterson on TVO’s The Agenda with Steve Paikin

What would it take to ensure that all refugee young people have access to learning that enables them to feel a sense of belonging? Refugee REACH founder and director Sarah Dryden-Peterson joined Steve Paikin on TVO’s The Agenda to discuss her book “Right Where We Belong: How Refugee Teachers and Students Are Changing the Future of Education,” and to explore this question.

TEACHERS AND YOUNG PEOPLE ARE TRYING TO CREATE A SENSE OF BELONGING BY… TRYING TO OPEN UP THIS OPPORTUNITY TO TALK ABOUT NOT ONLY THE WAY THINGS ARE TODAY THAT CAN FEEL VERY DISCRIMINATORY, BUT ALSO THE WAY YOUNG PEOPLE HOPE THEY WILL BE IN THE FUTURE. THOSE VERY MICRO-LEVEL INTERACTIONS THAT ARE HARD TO BUILD POLICY AROUND, HARD TO LEGISLATE, ARE REALLY THE CORE OF WHAT IT WOULD TAKE TO DEVELOP THIS KIND OF EDUCATION.
