A Journey Away from Hate
By Batsheva Baraban
Audience: Ages 14-18
A Journey Away from Hate is a spoken word poem intended to be heard. It recounts the story of Salim, who was born in 1983 in Gaza and lived through two Palestinian Intifadas and wars against Israel, and what shaped his heart and mind from childhood to adulthood.
Listeners will walk Salim’s path together, re-living a few of the life-changing, identity-shaping events in his life, each from a different age perspective. Listeners are encouraged to think about the place where education lies in Salim’s journey, and who holds the responsibility for constructing a balanced view of the world, if such a thing exists.
